A seated pair beneath an ornate arch forms the focal point of this purple Pen Kalamkari Bangalore silk dupatta. The figures are gathered near one end, leaving a broad expanse of lavender-purple framed by a mustard-yellow border.
A courtly scene with a bird-patterned end
The central pair sit together while smaller figures stand beside them and kneel below. A parasol rises above the arch, and fine outlines pick out crowns, jewellery and layered clothing in blue, green, pink and cream. Along the end, alternating blue and pink birds sit within curling foliage, with pendant-shaped details extending towards the edge.
Hand-drawn and hand-painted Kalamkari gives this dupatta its detailed figurative composition. Drape the decorated end forward over a plain kurta to show both the gathering and the bird border.
