Rows of colourful crowned figures cover the deep rose-red ground of this Pen Kalamkari Bangalore silk dupatta. A bright yellow border frames the figurative panels, while green palm-like foliage and curved architectural details divide the groups.
Contrasting figures arranged in horizontal bands
Blue, purple, green and orange figures appear in varied poses, some seated with companions and others standing with an arm extended. A prominent lion-faced seated figure and the surrounding smaller figures add variety to the composition. Striped garments, elaborate crowns and fine black outlines make each group distinct within the red field.
Created with hand-drawn and hand-painted Kalamkari artwork, the dupatta finishes with a cream end band of rounded floral motifs and coloured pendant shapes. A plain yellow or cream kurta provides a simple setting for the densely arranged figure work.
